* Green Tourism Business Scheme Awarded - Silver

Environmental Policy

We have always felt privileged to live in such a beautiful location and we endeavour to live in harmony with our environment and in a sustainable manner. We are members of The Green Tourism Business Scheme for Wales and have a grading pending.

We are committed to:

Good environmental practice which aims to protect and enhance the natural environment both locally and globally

During the renovation the following measures were undertaken in order to achieve this, whilst still fulfilling building regulations.

·         We acquired a grant from the Welsh Assembly and the Energy Saving Trust towards installing a wood pellet boiler. The pellets are produced locally from waste timber and burn with minimal emissions.

·         Low energy fluorescent lighting throughout the barn.

·         Direct Heat Thermo-Skirt radiators in our two main rooms which provide a more efficient output.

·         Worktops which were made from recycled glass bottles.

·         Cork boards from highly sustainable resources.

·         Turtle Mats produced in a sustainable manner.

·         “A” rated appliances and eco kettle and toaster.

·         High levels of insulation.

·         Reduced, reused, recycled as much as possible.

·         Used local tradesmen and goods wherever possible.

·         Developed Wild Life Garden and ponds.

·         Installed water butts.

·         Used Oswestry recycle furniture scheme and freecycle.

Now the renovation is complete we would invite guests to support, participate and help us to improve our environmental policy.

The following are some of the measures we are implementing:

·         Seeking advice from the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

·         Using recycled products and eco-friendly cleaners.

·         Promoting local shops, traders and craftsmen.

·         Reducing, Recycling, Reusing. Composting and Wormery.

·         Encourage cyclists and walkers.

·         Providing information on places of interest and nature/wildlife reserves.

·         Providing welcome packs of local produce.

·         Providing safe storage for bikes.

·         Planting our own fruit garden and vegetable patch.

·         Implementing safe waste disposal.

We encourage all our guests to adopt a green lifestyle in order to safe guard our precious environment.
